Athens Council Approves Open Government Plan, Expands Urban Planning Autonomy

The Municipal Council of Athens approved the city’s first Action Plan and Strategic Vision for the Open Government Partnership Local, establishing it as the first Greek municipality to adopt open government principles at the local level. In a separate action, the Athens City Council passed a majority-vote resolution that challenges the Prime Minister’s urban planning reforms transferring building permit authority from municipalities to the state-owned company Ktimatologio S.A.
