City procurement records show these projects are projected to support 650 temporary construction positions over 18 months, with hiring managed by the awarded firms rather than the municipality itself.
Residents in Patisia and Kypseli will see crews begin sewer replacements in September, reducing the frequency of basement flooding during heavy rain. Commuters using the 550 bus route between Syntagma and the northern suburbs can expect dedicated lanes to shorten peak-hour travel times once construction finishes in 2028.
Service continuity and next steps
The remaining 25 million euros is earmarked for signal upgrades and pavement repairs around schools and hospitals, measures listed in the council's capital works schedule released last month. The legislation states that all contracts must include local hiring targets, though enforcement falls to the municipal audit office.
Procurement notices are scheduled for publication by the end of July, with construction permits expected to be issued in August. The city clerk's office will publish monthly progress reports on the municipal website starting in October.
