More than 180 tech positions opened across Athens startups in the past four weeks, with software engineering and AI development roles accounting for nearly half of the listings.
The increase comes as several early-stage funds closed rounds in June and companies prepare for product launches ahead of autumn investor meetings. Athens has seen a steady inflow of seed capital since the start of 2026, and founders say they are now converting that money into headcount rather than waiting for larger Series A rounds.
Two districts stand out in the current wave. In Psyrri, the coworking space at Plateia Theatrou has added three new resident startups since May, each posting multiple engineering vacancies. Further north in Marousi, the Hellenic Technology Park on Kifissias Avenue welcomed a logistics software firm that is interviewing for twelve full-time roles, including senior backend developers and data scientists. Both locations report that candidates with Greek language skills and EU work permits are moving through hiring pipelines faster than remote applicants from other countries.
Local programs are helping match talent to these openings. The Athens Digital Skills Initiative, run from offices on Panepistimiou Street, held its latest hiring mixer on 3 July and connected 92 job seekers with ten participating companies. Organisers said 41 interviews were scheduled on the spot.
Salary data from the June 2026 edition of the Greek Tech Salary Survey shows mid-level software engineers in Athens now command offers between €48,000 and €62,000, up from €42,000 twelve months earlier. Several Psyrri founders report filling roles within three weeks when they list salaries at the top of that band and offer hybrid schedules. Equity packages remain modest, typically 0.2 to 0.5 percent, but candidates are accepting them more readily than in prior years.
Recruiters expect the pace to hold through September. Companies that missed the spring funding window are now using revenue from pilot contracts to bring on contractors before converting them to permanent staff. Job seekers are advised to update profiles on local platforms such as Workathlon and attend the next open office hours at the Hellenic Startup Association on 22 July in Gazi.
