Athens tour companies recorded 28 percent more bookings for July walking routes than in the same month last year, with slots on the new Psyrri night tour selling out within four days of release.

The increase coincides with peak visitor numbers and longer daylight hours that allow operators to extend routes after sunset. City records show 4.8 million overnight stays in Athens between January and May 2026, pushing demand for smaller group experiences that avoid the midday heat around the Acropolis.

Routes through Psyrri and Kolonaki

Alternative Athens, based on Agias Theklas Street in Psyrri, launched its 90-minute after-dark food and street-art walk on 1 July. The route starts at the corner of Miaouli and Evripidou streets and ends at a taverna on Plateia Iroon. Participants sample three local dishes and visit three galleries that opened in former warehouses last winter.

In Kolonaki, Athens Walking Tours added a weekday morning loop that passes the Byzantine and Christian Museum on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue before climbing to the summit of Lycabettus. The 2.5-hour session costs 38 euros and caps groups at 12 people.

Prices and booking details

Standard adult tickets for the Psyrri route run 45 euros, with a reduced 32-euro rate for residents who show proof of address at the Agias Theklas office. Both operators accept bookings through their websites or at the desk inside the Monastiraki metro station kiosk. Slots for the remaining July dates on the Kolonaki loop are still open as of 11 July.

Residents planning to join either tour should reserve at least 48 hours ahead through the company sites or by calling the Monastiraki desk at 210 324 0007. Early weekday slots tend to have the most availability before the August holiday period begins.
