Kifisia sits at the end of Line 1 in Athens' northern suburbs, elevated 276 metres above the city and shaded by plane and pine trees that moderate summer temperatures to create what Athenians have long considered the capital's most pleasant residential climate. The neighbourhood's numerous private galleries and antique dealers make it one of Athens' best destinations for art collecting, with a concentration of dealers specialising in Greek folk art, Byzantine icons, and 20th-century Hellenic painting. The surrounding Penteli and Parnitha mountains are accessible for hiking within thirty minutes of the neighbourhood, providing an escape into Mediterranean forest landscape that remains surprisingly wild at the edge of one of Europe's most densely populated metropolitan areas.
